“Remember your training…
Applied training must be beyond the mastery of your craft to hone your mental acuity and muscle memory of it so it’s instinctual and reactive.
The best training program in the world is absolutely worthless without the will to execute it properly, consistently, and with intensity.
All that listening, watching, learning, practicing then mastering a skill or skillset to have it all go away when shit gets real. All that training becoming useless when finally in a live situation, the kind you trained for.
Whether conducting a firefight, starting a new job or engaging a beautiful woman, forgetting what we technically and practically know how to do happens to the best and most experienced of us.
But even the most hardened and talented can freeze in extreme or unexpected circumstances. In these cases it’s all about how quickly you can get back on track to administer the appropriate skills you’ve trained for, you just have to remember.
If you find yourself in this position, in your head or under your breath, just say this with conviction:
“Remember your training!”
Not “remember MY training” but with a “your”. As if you’re being told this by your mentor, instructor or anyone else that you respect or influences you.
It’s like a one phrase, instant pep talk.
The idea is that the ability to accomplish whatever task ahead of you is all there, you just have to remember it and use it. It just has to be initiated, motivated… activated.
